Open Educational Resources and Policy: Overview and Synergies with Fellow Open Movements
Over the last five years, Open Educational Resources (OER) policies have increasingly developed around the world, creating new opportunities and introducing new challenges. The European "Opening Up Education" initiative, launched last year, brought the idea of open education into the mainstream, while also introducing the potential for "openwashing": thinning out the standards of openness. The workshop will be targeted at people working on the development of open policies, but who are not necessarily knowledgeable about OER. We will start with a global overview of OER policy, a quick snapshot of key cases and models being adopted. In the second part, we will lead a discussion on what is a model OER policy and how it related to other open policies (for Open Access or Open Data, for instance).

Open Education Smörgåsbord
Open Education is about breaking down barriers to learning. This may be through changing teaching practice, shifting policy, releasing data or sharing resources.

In the Open Education Smörgåsbord we want to get people interacting, collaborating, sharing, making and ultimately learning about what the future of education could be. This interactive workshop session will begin by introducing attendees to the Open Education Working Group and how it relates to the different elements of open education. It will then facilitate cross-sector and cross-domain working through an interactive 'maker party'. The five 'table' leaders will introduce themselves, their projects and explain the activity they will be facilitating. The tables are: The Open Teacher Kit, OER Policy made crystal clear, Mobile use of open data for education, Make an Open Education Handbook Q&A and open courseware collaboration with Slidewiki. Attendees can join any of the 5 maker tables and make and learn!
